Diversity Day

The Diversity Committee met, discussed and agreed upon the following format for Diversity Day.

All school Commitment: In order for this event to be successful, the classroom teachers will need to commit to school wide participation. This means that each classroom teacher will identify a culture or country that they will focus upon. The presenter may be the classroom teacher, a volunteer, or it may be a collaborative/team teaching effort.

Diversity Day Format: The day will begin with a all-school introduction assembly, teachers will teach (see all school commitment above) two of the three sessions, and one session will be the culture walk in the gym. Each session will be 45 minutes and will include travel. For those teachers who have specialists that day, the specialist will supervise students during the culture walk. The day will end with a CNN closing event/activity; students will be in their own classrooms during this time. The committee will work out when/how students and teachers transition so that students are supervised. Recesses and lunch schedules will not change. The following is a tentative schedule:

Opening Assembly 8:45-9:15 am

Session 1 9:45-10:30 am

Lunches/Recesses Regular Schedule

Session 2 12:30-1:15 pm

Session 3 1:15-2:00 pm

CNN Closing Event 2:15-2:30 pm
