1. The team looked at Achievement Gap Action Plan surveys that were filled out by staff in August 2009.

We decided to focus on these questions:

What supports should be at Carson? Which ones are underrepresented? What professional development would benefit Carson?

What is Carson already doing?

What are our family and community partnerships?

What do we want to do as a school and what will it take to achieve it?

Data from the surveys will be compiled so that it will be easier to see the needs and narrow our efforts.

2. Community Outreach

The discussion was how Carson reaches out to the community and what we could do to enhance that relationship.

One idea was to follow what Wildwood Elementary did by getting a bus and having teachers go out into the community. This could be done on a Wednesday that is principal directed.

Could we hold an event with teachers and community at a clubhouse?

Could the academic nights that are usually held at the school be moved to a clubhouse?

Carson is interested in considering an idea for their staff.

3. Honoring Cultures

Remind staff to be thinking of ideas and take pictures of the activities. Teachers should also be saving work samples to present.

4. How welcoming is our office?

Negative reports have come to our attention about visitors feeling ignored in our office.

Round table discussion and ideas:

Move kids “in trouble” to a different area

Staff uses the staff side entrance instead of going through the office area--initial emphasis will be during "busy" times in the office

Have staff conversations in the back workroom area

Décor change?
