Meeting began with processing checklist from ODA for compliance and a successful start to the new school year!
Topics of discussion generated via the checklist included:
· Translations/translators: Let Jennifer know what languages we need for our families and she will get teachers copies to send home with students.
· Remind teachers to request interpreters for conferences and follow the procedures for request and follow up confirmation. The teacher is responsible for getting this done. Jennifer is checking to see if the procedure folder with paperwork is still in the office and will update it for the staff.
· Tell/remind teachers about behavior procedures and re-admittance back to class. The team discussed bullying and making sure teachers are listening and are aware of any situations that need to be brought up to Arturo or Miles.
· REACH and Community Connections
The Diversity Team is looking for ideas on getting the community connected to our students. We want ideas that will reach our diverse population and include them more. Highlighting cultural events in the community was discussed and tabled.
Turn in staff contributions for the school newsletter/web site. Include and spotlight the achievements of our diverse students.
· PACK Leadership (proposal to be shared at first Oct. PACK meeting)
IDEA: Six subjects and six grade levels where we could include people of diverse backgrounds in a field of work. Example: a grade level is assigned science and they gather information on successful scientists from other cultures.
